For a blast from the past may of the spectators took a ride in style. The 1912 Detroit Electric is owned by the Province of BC and is in the custody of VEVA. It runs on 96 volts consisting of 16 x 6v lead acid batteries (original equipment was nickle iron but I understand that after 60+ years of operation the nickle cases were getting pin holes and could not be rebuilt). It uses a DC series motor with about 15 horsepower and a 5 speed direct drive. Top speed is 30 kph and has a range of over 80 km. It was built by Anderson Electric Car Company, Detoit, Michigan.
Still going strong at 86.
It just keeps on going.
